Lola Sayong Sayo Lang Ako...

"Surfing through the waves of Southeast Luzon..."

Lola Sayong Eco-surf Camp Beach. Nov. 04, 2017

-----

If ever you decided to finally tick "Learn to surf" off your bucketlist, well I suggest try doing it here at Lola Sayong Eco-surf Camp. Why fly to Surigao or Baler if you can just travel by land to experience surfing? This is just around the Southeast part of Luzon and perfect for starters like me. Aside from surfing, the beach has really fine sand which makes it also suitable for swimming if ever you are not ready to try surfing yet (just like two of my friends... haha. Can I give them a shout-out here? Haha). This surfing paradise began their operations last 2014, that's why it is not overcrowded (and yes, I really asked ate on the reception regarding this matter, haha). The place is also perfect for soul-searching, making moments with friends and loved ones, and yes, bring cameras with you and have your OOTDs, because the place is instagrammable.

How To Get There?

If you are coming from other parts of the Philippines and the world, you have to fly to Legazpi City first. That's the closest airport to get here. You will have a bonus view of the majestic Mayon Volcano, which is famous for its perfect cone. From Legazpi City, you have to ride a van to Sorsogon City. Usually the trip lasts from one to one and a half hour.

If you travel by land, you can take a bus directly to Sorsogon. From Sorsogon City, ride a jeepney to Gubat, Sorsogon. If ever you don't have foods with you, you can buy first at Sorsogon City proper. There are fastfoods and grocery marts there. Tell the jeepney driver to drop you off to Gubat Centro, where you can a ride a tricycle to Lola Sayong.

St. Peter and Paul Basilica. If I have time, I usually visit churches on my travels

Things to Do:

  • Learn to surf. This is the most important thing you got to do here. There are friendly kuyas that will teach you. Since I am able to learn to surf first at Baler, Aurora, I did not have a hard time relearning to surf. The key is to listen to kuya, find your balance and keep in mind the positions to do. You will tumble on your surfboard, get smashed by the waves and even might get a boardcut, but that is part of learning.

Chose the read one, cause red is my favorite.

Surfing
  • Just Keep Swimming. The place has fine sand and the sea is not deep. It may not be as white and powdery as Boracay but still is a great beach to swim at. You just have to suffer being smashed by the waves. Haha. But you will have fun. Only a downside is that there are floating seaweeds, nevertheless, that is a sea so expect seaweeds. Haha
Sand that is fine as hell... Haha

  • Meditate. If you are in need of a peaceful place for soul-searching, well I highly recommend this place. This beach does not welcome party people. The owner wants this to be a haven for those who needs a peaceful getaway place. Playing with your wireless speakers are also  not allowed. Well, who needs parties and loud music if you can make chitchats and have memories with your buddies.
A message for their guests

Sorry Party People, this place is for peace of mind

They even made their list of things to do

  • Instagram Moment. Just like I said awhile ago, this place offers instagrammable spots where you can flaunt your OOTDs. So make sure to bring a supportive friend to take your pictures. Haha. Luckily, I have friends that take photos amazingly.

What to Bring?

  • Swimming attire. They are not strict regarding attire so you can wear an attire where you are most comfortable
  • Foods. Expect a corkage of P15.00/pax. There is a nearby store but you can save much more if you will bring foods with you.
  • Cameras. duh? This is a must for travels. Haha
  • Swimming necessities (sunblocks, plastics, etc)
  • Determination to learn to surf. Haha
  • Friends. But you can go here alone if you are in need of soul-searching.

How much?

  • Php 320.00 - Fare (from Legazpi City  - Lola Sayong and vice versa). Van to Sorsogon City is Php 120.00. Jeepney to Gubat from Sorsogon City is Php 30.00. Tricycle from Gubat to Lola Sayong is Php 10.00
  • Php 25.00 - Entrance/Maintenance Fee. The place is well-maintained. They have neat comfort rooms.
  • Php 15.00 - Corkage. This is per pax
  • Php 150.00 - Open Cottage. Perfect if you will not spend an overnight stay.
  • Php 350.00 - Learn to Surf. This is good for one hour. I thought one hour is already enough and it won't take you too long to learn surfing.
  • *Optional: Php 800 - Php 1,450.00  - Cottages for stay-in and bigger pax.

For more info, they have a website:

Hope this helps. Have fun guys and I'm excited for you to enjoy the moments, just like I did.

Happy Surfing!
